Aurora C. Andrews, M.D.

Treatment Issues:  Anxiety Disorders, Mood Disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive Behaviors

 

Education and Training:  Dr. Andrews obtained her Doctor of Medicine degree in 1970 from the University of the Philippines where she also completed her residency in surgery in 1971.  She completed her residency in psychiatry at Traverse City State Hospital in Michigan in 1975.  Dr. Andrews participated in a fellowship program in ECT at the Western Psychiatric Institute at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 2001 and has completed additional training in ECT at the University of Michigan.

 

Background and Experience:  Dr. Andrews has practiced psychiatry in the state of Michigan since 1976.  She worked for the State of Michigan Department of Mental Health for 20 years and then served as the Psychiatric Medical Director of Oaklawn Hospital for 14 years prior to joining Meier Clinics.

 

Special Interests and Services:  Dr. Andrews enjoys and has experience working with people of all ages, including children and the geriatric population.

 

Amanda S. Case, Psy.D.

Treatment Issues:  Anxiety, Depression, Life Transition, Psychological Testing.

 

Education and Training:  Bachelor of Arts degree from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Master's degree in Christian Leadership and Clinical Psychology and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA.  Licensed in Michigan as a Limited Licensed Psychologist.

 

Background and Experience:  Dr. Case has worked in various community mental health centers in California counseling the underserved. 

 

Special Interests and Services:  Dr. Case works with adolescents and adults in individual therapy who are interested in managing and coping with depression, anxiety, stress, transitions, and identity issues.  She works with individuals from an eclectic perspective in restoring the whole person.

 

Additional Information:   Dr. Case has an interest in working along side churches to improve the mental and spiritual health of their communities.

 

Donald E. Eckerty, M.A., L.P.C., L.L.P.

Treatment Issues:  Anxiety, Behavioral Disorders, Custody Problems, Depression, Learning Disabilities, Loss


Education and Training:  Bachelor's degree from Lincoln Christian College.  Master of Arts in Psychology and Counseling from Western Michigan University, where he went on to complete post-Master's studies.

 

Background and Experience:  Don has over fifteen years of experience in both Pastoral Ministry and Counseling.

 

Special Interests and Services:  Don works with families and married couples dealing with anxiety, depression, and feelings of personal and spiritual loss. His work with children focuses on behavioral disorders, learning disabilities, and custody problems. He currently facilitates a Men's Sexual Addiction Group.

 

Joseph J. Noto, M.A., L.P.C.

Treatment Issues:  Anger, Anxiety, Blended Families, Children in Transition, Depression, Identity Issues, Learning Disabilities, Married Couples experiencing Relationship Difficulties

 

Education and Training:  Bachelors of Arts in Education and Master of Arts in Counseling from Western Michigan University.  Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Michigan since 1980.

 

Background and Experience:  Joe previously worked for 30 years as a teacher and counselor with the Battle Creek public schools.  Five of those years were spent as a high school counselor and 14 years as an elementary counselor, working with at-risk children and families.

 

Special Interests and Services:  Joe currently facilitates various educational, process, and spiritual groups.  He enjoys working with children on a wide variety of issues and has worked with those as young as four years.  Joe is also effective with adults, families, married couples, veterans, and senior citizens.

 

Additional Information:  Joe is a thirty-year veteran of the United States Air Force with time on active duty in the Air Guard and Air Force Reserve.  This military experience helps him in working with veterans on various issues.  Joe and his wife have conducted workshops on parenting as well as seminars for couples that center on improving relationships.

 

Joanne Rector, M.A., L.P.C., L.L.P.

Treatment Issues:  Developmental Issues, Grief, Loss, Women's Issues


Education and Training: Master's Degree in Community Counseling from Andrews University.

 

Background and Experience:  Joanne previously provided Foster Care for children and youth.

 

Special Interests and Services:  Joanne currently facilitates various educational and spiritual groups.

 

Stan Russell, M.A., L.L.P.C.

Treatment Issues:  Anxiety, Depression, Family Therapy, Personality Disorders, Pre-Marital, Marital, Relationships

 

Education and Training:  Bachelor of Arts degree in theology from Christian Life College.  Master of Arts degree in professional counseling from Liberty University.  Licensed by the State of Michigan as a Limited License Professional Counselor.

 

Background and Experience:  Stan has six years experience in pre-marital and pastoral counseling with the Potter’s House Church in Battle Creek.  He completed his professional counseling internship at Meier Clinics of Battle Creek and is now working there as a clinician.

 

Special Interests and Services:  Stan works with adults and young adults struggling with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship conflicts, marital conflicts, pre-marriage preparation, bipolar disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, grief, and personality disorders.  Stan has special interest in family systems and personality disorders.

 

Karen Thiesen, M.A., L.P.C.

Treatment Issues:  Anxiety, Depression, Disorders in Adults and Adolescents, Eating Disorders, Mood Disorders, Premarital & Marital Counseling, Self-injury, Sexual Abuse Recovery, Trauma Recovery

 

Education and Training:  Graduated Magna Cum Laude from Aquinas College in 1979 with a secondary education degree before obtaining her Masters in Counseling Degree from Spring Arbor University in 2005.  She is certified in Michigan as a Licensed Practicing Counselor.

 

Background Experience:  A former high school teacher, Ms. Thiesen worked for seven years with a peer-education abstinence program titled Teen HEART (Health Education Affirming Responsible Teens).  She has teamed with Battle Creek area foster care providers and offered free educational seminars in the area of sexual abuse recovery and self-injurious behavior (cutting).  Ms. Thiesen has worked with Meier Clinics since 2005.

 

Special Interests and Services:  Ms. Thiesen conducts group and individual therapy at Meier Clinics for treatment issues listed above.  She was certified in the Prepare and Enrich Program  in 2005.

 

Additional Information:  Ms. Thiesen is the oldest of nine children.  She and her husband have been married since 1980 and have raised five children.

 

Bob Zuhl, Div., B.A., B.D.

Treatment Issues:  Specializes in spiritual focus areas that include understanding God's character, forgiveness, responsibility, confession, overcoming denial, freedom, and more.

 

Education and Training:  Bachelor of Arts degree from Marion College in Marion, IN.  Bachelor of Divinity from Northern Baptist Seminary in Chicago, IL.  Doctor of Divinity from Christian Bible College in Rocky Mountain, NC.

 

Background Experience:  Rev. Zuhl pastored the Wesleyan Church in Oak Lawn, IL (a Chicago suburb) for 16 years and then was elected as the General Secretary of Youth for the Wesleyan Church in Indianapolis, IN.  In 1975, Rev. Zuhl and his family moved to Battle Creek, MI, to pastor the First Wesleyan Church where he served as Senior Pastor for 20 years.

 

Additional Information:  Rev. Zuhl has enjoyed being married to his college sweetheart since 1950.  They raised three children who have given them several beautiful grandchildren.  Through the years, he has been active in mission work and has served as a national and international speaker for workshops, ministerial conferences, and crusades.  He served as Executive Director of the "Life That Wins" evangelism motivations seminars and was editor of their monthly motivational magazine.  In 1965, he was awarded "Pastor of the Year" by the Greater Chicagoland Sunday School Association.  He has formerly directed the Baranabas Ministries in the Battle Creek area through Youth for Christ, has served on the School Board for Calhoun Christian School in Battle Creek, and is the chaplain for Bickford Cottage, an assisted living complex in Battle Creek.  He has served as the Pastoral Care Director for First Wesleyan Church in Battle Creek since 1952.
