Susan M. Carey, Ph.D.

Education: Masters in educational psychology and counseling at the University of Wisconsin.  Masters in Theology, Masters in Clinical Psychology, and Doctorate in Clinical psychology from Fuller Seminary.

Specialty Training and Experience:  Dr. Carey taught pre-school through twelfth grade, including special education and gifted studies, for fourteen years.  She gained clinical and neurological experience working at the Brain Injury Unit of the University of Washington Hospital and at the Neurology Department at Children's Hospital Los Angeles.  She currently works as a school psychologist for Seattle Public Schools, Washington.

Special Interests: Includes Attention Deficit Disorder (A.D.D.), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (A.D.H.D.), depression, learning disabilities, anxiety, divorce, family issues, and assessment for all ages.

Publications: Dr. Carey was on the committee which developed the ethics manual for school psychologists in the State of Washington for the Washington Association of School Psychologists.   She wrote chapters for a book on physical, emotional and spiritual healing, and introductions to chapters on cross cultural communication for Dr. Charles Kraft at Fuller Seminary.  She also wrote a Divorce Recovery Coloring Book.

 

Carol M. Christensen, M.A., L.M.H.C.

Education: Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Speech Communications from the University of Washington.  Graduate degree in Bible from Multnomah College of the Bible in Portland.  Master's degree in Spiritual Nurture from Western Seminary in Seattle.

Specialty Training and Experience:  Ms. Christensen gained mental health experience working at three inpatient psychiatric facilities and an outpatient chemical dependency center. She served for ten years as the executive director of a national youth organization.  She spear headed a national campaign and committee addressing substance abuse and sexual issues students are confronting in public schools. She has served as an adjunct professor of counseling at Puget Sound Christian College and has over twenty years of Christian ministry experience.

Groups: Carol has developed groups based on her book Power Over Panic, Answers for Anxiety.  In addition, she facilitates psychotherapy groups that include some of Meier Clinicss' best-selling titles: Avoiding Mr. or Ms. Wrong, The Mom Factor, Safe People, Boundaries, Addicted to Love, and Love is a Choice.  She has also developed new therapy groups for women and spouses dealing with sexual issues.
 
Special Interests: Ms. Christensen's professional interests include anxiety disorders, depression and codependency.  She enjoys working with those who struggle with family or marital stress, sexual issues, career loss, middle age and singles' issues, relationship issues, depression, grief, anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (O.C.D.), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (P.T.S.D.), GAD, and Bipolar Disorder.  She works with families, individuals, and group counseling.

Publications: The first of Carol Christensen's three-volume self-help series, Power Over Panic, Answers for Anxiety. Additional books, Power Over Depression and Power of Codependency, are forthcoming in her soon to be released series.  Her publishing credits include over sixty articles in Christian magazines: Discipleship Journal, Youthworker, Light and Life, The Standard, and Christianity Today's Your Church.

 

Daniel D. Hartman, Psy.D.

Treatment Issues:  Depression, Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Character Disorders, Diagnostic Clarification Issues

Education: Masters and Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D.) at Rosemead School of Psychology, Biola University, in La Mirada, California.

Specialty Training and Experience:  Dr. Hartman has developed inpatient, outpatient, and day hospital programs.  He has also trained and supervised therapists.  He has been a licensed psychologist since 1987.

Groups: He currently facilitates two groups out of Northgate.

Special Interests: Includes depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder and character disorder in individual, group, and family formats.  He enjoys the challenge of difficult diagnostic clarification issues and complex cases.  Dr. Hartman provides individual, family, marital, and group psychotherapy.

 

Gretchen Jones, M.A.

Education and Training:  Bachelor of Arts from Northwest University, 2003.  Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Northwest University, 2003.  Licensed as a Mental Health Counselor in Washington since 2007.

 

Background and Experience:  Gretchen worked as an Intake Coordinator for the Meier Clinics from 2002-2008.  She also has experience working in the Meier Clinics Day Program and has had an outpatient practice since 2003.

 

Special Interests and Services:  Gretchen works with adolescents and adults on a wide range of issues.  Her style is based on object-relations, cognitive-behavioral, and family systems therapy approaches.  Some areas of special interest are boundary issues, cross-cultural adjustments and concerns, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

 

Additional Information:  Gretchen is available for speaking engagements to churches or other organizations on a wide range of topics.  She is contracted with Premera Blue Cross, First Choice Health, and Uniform Medical insurance networks.  She also offers a sliding scale for clients who meet financial criteria.

 

Neil Jones, M.A.

Background and Experience:  Neil has worked for Meier Clinics since 2005. He has been a therapist in the three week intensive day program as well as an outpatient therapist.

 

Special Interests and Services:  Neil works with adolescents and adults with a wide range of issues. His style is s combination of object-relations, cognitive-behavioral, and family systems therapy approaches. Some areas of special interest are chronic pain management, chronic illness adjustment, sexual addiction issues, boundary issues, cross-cultural adjustments and concerns, and depression in addition to the list above.

Jeffrey Stover, M.S., L.M.H.C. Ph.D.

Specialty Training and Experience:  Dr. Stover joined Meier Clinic in 1999 in the outpatient Clinic and in 2001 began working in the Seattle Day Program.

Special Interests: Includes depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, marriage, sexuality, and sexual addictions for individual adults and couples.

 

Hanna Hollie Swardstrom, M.S.W.

Education and Training: Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education from Wadworth College.  Master's in Social Work from Aurora University, Aurora, IL. Nursing degree from Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's School of Nursing.  Attended Fuller Seminary for Psychology and Family Studies.  Licensed by the state of Washington as a counselor since 1998.

Background and Experience:  Hollie worked as a school social worker in the Naperville, IL, school district previously and was a research coordinator in behavioral studies. She was a public health nurse and a consultant in the juvenile court as a counselor for DuPage County, IL.  She has been counseling adolescents and adults since 1987. 


Special Interests and Services
:  Includes working with children, adolescents, and adults on a wide range of issues.  Hollie uses cognitive behavioral and solution focused approaches, focusing on interaction and education of clients' roles and skills.

 

Additional Information:  Hollie has a medical background in research working also in behavioral sciences at UCLA and other centers that incorporate a total balanced life, including consideration of nutritional intake, physical activity, and spiritual components.

 

Michael Tandy, Ph.D.

Education and Training:  B.A. in Philosophy from Indiana University, 1972.  M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Indiana University, 1977.  M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Seattle Pacific University, 2004.  Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Seattle Pacific University, 2007.

 

Background and Experience:  Dr. Tandy developed a pain clinic in association with Bloomington Hospital in Indiana.  He developed a wellness program at Indiana University and saw private clients, primarily college and Olympic athletes.  He has had further experience through the Department of Corrections in Idaho and Washington with cognitive behavioral change programs.

 

Special Interests and Services:  Adult communication issues and anxiety/depression problems are among Dr. Tandy's special interests.  He also sees clients who experience pain and are unable to find relief with medical interventions.  He is experienced in assessment to facilitate proper diagnosis and treatment.

 

Additional Information:  Dr. Tandy has published articles in professional journals in the areas of family systems, attachment, and social interest.  He offers reduced fees to clients who meet the financial guidelines.

 

Mary Beth Woll, M.A.

Education and Training:  Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Seattle Pacific University, 1979.  Bachelor of Arts in Music from Seattle Pacific University, 1979.  Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Northwest University, 2006.

 

Background and Experience:  Mary Beth worked for three years as the Director of the Lynnwood and Everett Crisis Pregnancy Centers.  Following that, she worked for New Hope Child and Family Agency, facilitating adoptions by working with birth parents before, during, and after the adoption placement.  After taking special training in the area of Inner Healing, she worked with Rita Bennett as coordinator of her Emotionally Free Seminars.  Mary Beth helped introduce the Teen Aid (Abstinence Until Marriage) curriculum into her local public school system, taught Teen Aid at the middle and high school levels, and coordinated the district-wide Teen Aid program, including recruiting and training pastors and youth pastors, along with other speakers, to teach Teen Aid in the public schools.  Currently, she is working with a local church by providing support to the leaders of a Celebrate Recovery ministry, a Christian-based 12-step recovery program.

 

Special Interests and Services:  Mary Beth works with adults on a wide range of issues in addition to those listed above.  She describes her therapy style as Object Relations while incorporating Cognitive Behavioral and Inner Healing.  She offers reduced fees to clients who meet the financial guidelines.

 

Additional Information:  Mary Beth worked as Co-Music Minister together with her husband, Bob, for many years.  She enjoys teaching psychological principles from a solid Biblical basis.  She is available for speaking engagements for churches, retreats, women's ministries, and seminars.
